Why it happens, and when to reseal or replace units
Condensation shows up when warm, moist air hits cold glass. Sometimes it’s harmless, but other times it means your window has a problem.
Three Types You’ll See
- Outside: Morning dew. Nothing to worry about.
- Inside: Steam from showers, cooking, or drying clothes. Better ventilation usually fixes it.
- Between the panes: This means the sealed unit has failed. You can’t wipe it away.
Fixing the Problem
- Quick fixes like sprays or drilling holes don’t really last.
- Resealing can help in some cases, but not for long.
- The proper fix is to replace the double-glass unit. Most of the time, the frame can stay.
Why It’s Worth Fixing
- Keeps your home warmer and bills lower.
- Stops windows looking cloudy or damp.
- Protects your home’s value.
How to Avoid It Next Time
- Use exhaust fans or open windows in wet areas.
- Keep window frames and drainage holes clean.
- Choose better frames (like uPVC or thermally broken aluminium) if you’re upgrading.
✅ If your windows are fogging between the panes, it usually means replacement is the only long-term solution.
